About the GWU Film Critic Class

  • Comm 400A – The Film Critic: This class will explore the power of filmmaking and evaluation and appreciation of film through different genres (Drama, Comedy, Family, Thriller, biopic, etc). Through online lectures, face-to-face dialogue, outside film viewing, assigned readings, online guest speakers, written assignments, weekly postings and creative projects – we will discover the art of film interpretation by examining scriptwriting, visual techniques, acting, musical score, special effects, and more. Through this course, students will also get a closer look at why all films can have individual interpretations. Our perspectives are unique and different, and that can impact each person’s film analysis. A full description is available here.
