Things you will find in films of the horror genre

(Many of these could be classified as sub-genres).

  • Monsters – (Vampires, werewolves, zombies, mummies, etc.).vampire-category_o_181029
  • Ghouls, ghosts and unexplained phenomenon (“Paranormal Activity,” “The Sixth Sense,” “The Fog”).
  • Slasher films (typically involving a hard-to-kill or catch psychopathic killer stalking helpless victims and violently killing them (“Friday the 13th”, “Nightmare on Elm Street,” “Saw”, Halloween,” “Texas Chainsaw Massacre”). It’s about the blood and gore and body count.
  • Demons and Demon Possession (“The Exorcist”, “The Evil Dead,” “Jennifer’s Body,” “The Last Exorcism”).
  • Witches and curses (“Drag Me to Hell”, “Blair Witch Project,” “Thinner”, “The Witch”, “The Ring”, “The Grudge”).
  • Psychological (suspense) Thrillers – Serial killers, crazy people on the rampage and pure evilness alive in humanity, characters playing mind games with victims. Many times these films are closer to reality than others in the ‘horror’ genre. (“Silence of the Lambs,” “Psycho,” “Misery”, ”The Village”, “Memento,” “The Shining.).
