Comic Talent Option – Writing prompt 1: “The best comic talent I’ve ever seen on film.”
Using your understanding of the lesson on comedy (including the understanding of the “Humor Styles Survey,” “Comedy Subgenres,” and the other elements offered in the chapter) offer a “best comic talent” post on your film journal with defense (and examples) of “why.” You must support your reasons with critical understanding and observations (or with research). Is the acting more of a slapstick comedy act, linguistic based (dialogue-driven), dark comedy, etc. Remember, it should be more than “I just like …” Defend your selection. Questions for consideration: Why is this talent funny? What are some of the films they’ve starred in? What types of reactions does this talent get from box office, critics and audiences? When/how did they get started in comedy? Who were their comedy influences? Do they always perform comedy, or do they stretch their acting chops? Remember to ID your sources using APA format.

Remember, it should be more than “I just like …” Defend your selection.Based on your understanding of subgenres, you should also identify what type of comedy this is (parody, dark comedy, situational comedy, slapstick, parody, etc.) with defense and examples. Questions for consideration: Why is this film considered funny? Who is the director, writer or cast? Are there elements of cinematography, music, sound design or editing that influence and support the comedy? What types of reactions did this film get from box office, critics and audiences? When was the film released? Was this a standalone film, or was it a part of a franchise (if so, was the franchise successful)? Remember to ID your sources using APA format.
